Thoughts
To be honest, I'm not convinced Christensen is going to cut it. The trade was a gamble and I'm not sure he's going to be more for us than he was for the Penguins and Thrashers. He won't be great with lesser linemates, so the only reasonable spot for him would be the 2nd line LW. And I can't really pencil him in there with a good feeling. Might turn out we'll have to try him there, but I'd rather look for alternatives. Andrew Ebbett is not good enough to be considered a #2 center and the #3 and #4 slots seem to be taken. Drew Miller might get some consideration for #4 LW, but will need a good camp.

On defense, James Wisniewski needs to be resigned. The question of course is whether Scott returns. I am optimistic because I believe he wants to see what this team can do next season and the Winter Olympics in Vancouver might be the factor to make him do it. If he returns, Pronger might get moved at the draft. The #5 and #6 slots are up for grabs between Mikkelson, Brookbank, Salcido, Festerling. But I would not be surprised to see a free agent addition here.

Big discussions are up about our goaltending. Hiller's performances in this playoffs are surprisingly different, many Ducks fans disagree with the experts that have been overwhelmingly pleased with Hiller's play. The truth, of course, is somewhere in between, but I think it was closer to him being outstanding than to him being "just ok". Giguere is coming off a horrible season. It is rather obvious Hiller can't be traded without having a decent backup in place in case Jiggy continues to struggle, because that is an option. Trading Hiller (which is understandably considered since his value is sky high now and he does not carry a NTC like Giguere does) without having a quality #2 would be pure gambling - and rolling the dice is not what smart GMs do; and certainly not on every team's most important position. Of course, almost the same goes the other way around: as nobody really knows whether Hiller can handle 60 starts a season we'd need a reliable backup in case he folds should we opt to trade Giguere.
All these issues might lead one to believing we simply won't do anything, which obviously is the most realistic possibility as it seems. However, with the Ducks' owners not necessarily wanting the Ducks to spend to the cap unless it is completely impossible to prevent, the idea of getting rid of a $6 mio contract that might end up sitting on the bench for 50 games is very enticing. While Giguere's value is certainly at a all time low right now, it's not a given it will ever be higher again. Should Hiller continue to be the better goaltender like he has been for quite a while now, Giguere's stock will continue to go down.

My ideal, absolutely not happening, however possibly not completely unrealistic scenario for this offseason:

RESIGNED: James Wisniewski signed to a 3yr deal worth $6.75 mio ($2.25 mio per year).
RESIGNED: Scott Niedermayer signed to a 1yr, $5.25 mio deal (limited NTC -> in case Ducks are out of playoff contention by deadline).
RESINGED: Mike Brown signed to a 3yr, $1.95 mio. deal ($0.650 mio per year).
RESIGNED: Todd Marchant signed to a 2yr, $2.8 mio deal ($1.4 per year).
RESIGNED: Rob Niedermayer (obviously only if this is considered a requirement by Scott) to a 1yr, $1.2 mio deal.
note: Francois Beauchemin tells Ducks he wants to test open market, signs for a multi year deal for $5 mio with some EC team. Ducks wish him all the best.

Draft Day:
TRADED: Chris Pronger to Boston Bruins for Patrice Bergeron, the Bruins' 25th overall pick in this year's entry draft (note: maybe add in a prospect, value is hard to determine but obviously a little lower than it was on deadline since now you get Pronger signed only for one season)
TRADED: J.S. Giguere, rights to Francois Beauchemin to Philadelphia Flyers for Ryan Parent, rights to Anttero Nittymaki and the Flyers' 21st overall pick in this year's entry draft (note: I expect objections here, to be honest. However, the rights to Beauche are not extremely valuable and Giggy's bad season in combination with his huge contract has driven his value down - a lot)
TRADED: Ducks trade Flyer's 21st overall pick and their own 14th overall pick to Dallas for their 8th overall pick
PICKED: Ducks pick Oliver Ekman-Larsson with their 8th overall selection, previously acquired from Dallas

EXTENDED: Ducks sign Jonas Hiller to 3yr contract extension worth $10.8 mio ($3.6 mio per yr)
RESIGNED: Ducks sign Anttero Nittymaki to a 2yr deal worth $3.7 mio ($1.85 mio per yr)
TRADED: Ducks acquire Mason Raymond from Vancouver Canucks for Brendan Mikkelson

Free Agency:
SIGNED: Ducks sign Chad LaRose to 2yr, $2.8 mio deal ($1.4 per year)
SIGNED: Ducks sign Johnny Oduya to 4yr, $11.5 mio deal ($2.875 per year)
